Discussion lists are simply a group of people that are all sending emails to each other on a specific subject.

Normally, everyone sends their "posts" (the letters they want circulated to the group) to one person, called a moderator. That person then sends them out to everyone in the group.

Some groups are very big, including hundreds of people. Some are a lot smaller, only being composed of twenty or thirty people. All the groups out there are different.
