Definition: Auditor
A third-party company that verifies ad deliveries and site statistics or a site's reporting systems.
Definition: Autoresponder
An email address that automatically sends a predetermined message out from the mail server to whoever sends mail to that address. This allows for *almost* instant delivery of information to those who request it.
Definition: Caching
Caching occurs when the page is stored on the visitors computer in order to speed loading. This is bad for page owners, as they can't tell the exact number of visitors to their site.
Definition: Click-Through
When someone clicks on a banner advertisement.
Definition: Click-Through Ratio
Stands for "Click Through Ratio". Used in the banner advertising industry to signify how many impressions occur on a banner in relation to the number of clicks-throughs. A CTR of 50:1, for example, would mean that, on average, the banner had to be displayed fifty times for one person to click on it.
Definition: Cost Per Thousand
Cost for a thousand of something, generaly in reference to buying a thousand ad displays of some type. For example, 17 CPT would equal 17,000. Also commonly known as: CPT
Definition: Ezine
A online newsletter, much similar to paper newsletters. They are usualy distributed via email, but can be on the WWW.
Definition: Hit
The number of files loaded from a server. This figure is not usfull to advertisers, as, if a page has ten different graphics, and someone visited it, it would count as eleven hits, one for the page load, and ten for all the different graphics. The only real use for this statistic is for server administrators, so they can determine the server load.
Definition: Impression
Used in the banner advertising industry, an impression usually means the number of times a banner advertisement is loaded. Can also mean how many people visit your site every day.
Definition: Keywords
These (very important) items are what describe the content of your web page. They are words and phrases that people type into a search field at a Search Engines.
Definition: Meta Tags
Tags contained at the beginning of a HTML document, used to record important page information. This can include creation date, author name, copywrite information, keywords and description and rating information. Meta Tags are usually used by the search engines to help with the ranking of pages.
Definition: MLM
Multilevel marketing (MLM). Any marketing program in which participants purchase the right to recruit additional participants, sell products or services, and be compensated for the sales by people they recruit as well as for their own sales.
Definition: Page Title
A page title is NOT the headings on the web page that "head up" a particular section of information. The page title is what shows up in the title bar of your web browser (at the very top) and is what is saved as the "bookmark description" when you bookmark a page or put it in your favorites.
Definition: Proxy Server
A server that stores a page remotely in order to speed loading time. This is very bad for advertisers, as it really distorts statistics.

Rating tags are simply little Meta Tags that let you self rate your page. Also commonly known as RASCI Tag
Definition: Reciprocal Linking
When two sites get together and decide that they want to both promote each others sites. It is benificial for both. Usualy, both sites place a simple text link to the other on a links page. Also commonly known as Exchanging Links, Trading Links
Definition: Reload
When someone refreshes the page. Usually initiated by the visitor, but some web pages are programmed to automaticly reload after a set amount of time. Also commonly known as Refresh
Definition: Robot
In the web industry, a robot is a computer that accesses your page to gather information from it, without a human ever seeing it. The most common types of robots come from the search engines. Also commonly known as Spider
Definition: Signature File
A short note, usually four to six lines in length appended to the end of an email message. It can include the senders name, address, a bit of free advertising for senders site or products, a quote, or whatever else the sender saw fit to include.
Definition: Unique
There is some discrepancies as to the meaning of this term. Most refer to it as the visit of one person to a website in a 24 hour time span. Definition: Unscolicited Email
Email that wasn't requested. Usually nicknamed as "spam", this is a marketing practice that is not usually well received, to say the least. Right now the jury is out as to what people regard as spam and what people don't. It's a very fine line... so be careful when sending email. Definition: Webrings
A webring is a group of sites that link themselves in a loop, and in theory, create extra traffic for each.
